Does your school allow you to enter the kindergarten classroom at drop off?

OliviaMum
We have been used to walking into our daughter's preschool classroom, walking around the room, chatting with the teachers during the drop off and pick up. Now that she has started kindergarten, her teachers say good bye to us at the door. This week, we're supposed to say good bye at the gate outside the school (not even inside the building). Does your child's kindergarten allow you to drop off and pick up in the classroom? How do you feel about it?

on the first day of school yes but after that they prefer you not to. bcause they said that kids need to get use to being away from parents while they are at school.so they wont cry for them.

OliviaMum,

It's pretty common for parents to be "weaned" from lingering. My daughter's school has a separate kindergarten area, and they're allowed in the kinder play yard, but as soon as the bell rings and the kids line up, the parents are supposed to leave the yard so it can be secured.

Sadly, there are plenty of parents that if allowed into the classroom would not leave for 10-15 minutes or longer, taking away valuable learning time.

At dismissal, the teachers stick around with the children until the last few parents pick up, so any "chatting" can be done there.

I think if it's done consistently, the kids get used to it quickly, and hopefully so do the parents. It's not done to hurt anyone's feelings but rather to start the day (and the learning on time).
