Relocating;Choosing the right school for my 10th grade son

loneAFdad
I'm a single dad to a 10th grade son moving from Fl to ID via Air Force move. Will be commuting to MH AFB. Having a hard time deciding where to live because of the differance in schools in area. My son will need social support and does not fit in well with stuck up yuppie type. THS or BHS? Very impressed with all scores and ratings. Any suggestions?

Hi loneAFdad,

If you've done all your research and are impressed with the stuff you see on paper, how likely is it that you could get "boots on the ground" and do a little recon in person? (The bad military puns are intended)

There's nothing like seeing a school in person, during school hours, and even sitting in on classes to get a better perspective on the campuses. Since your son is going to be in 10th grade, perhaps you can get him involved so he can see which school he has a better feel for.

A good school visit guide can be found here on Great Schools at www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/showarticle/48

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
