I am moving to Tacoma , Washinton. Both children are special needs children. 1.is a freshman in TDS .2.6th gr.

What schools are available.I just got them settled in the schools. Now we have to move by Nov.My husband got a job transfer. Please HELP.

Hi. Greatschools is a nationwide website, so I'm not sure if by TDS you mean Therapeutic Day School or ?
If it is, then was the placement done through the public school, or privately? Do both of your kids have IEPs now? As I understand IDEIA2004, their IEP's would remain in place until the new district does (if they chose) their own evaluations.

Unfortunately, Greatschools doesn't rate special ed programs in schools, so the chance of another parent from the same city with kids the same age and having same diagnoses is slim. My suggestion is to try an contact a local parent support group in the area you're moving to, for the kind of LD's your children have, and ask them for advice. (For example, www.chadd.org has groups for ADHD, IDA has support groups for dyslexia, etc.) Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm not from the Tacoma area.....
