I usually test my kids right before they leave for school on spelling test days. You might teach your daughter how to spell in "song". Some kids memorize better when they sing the letters to spell words. Kind of like when you learned to say the "days of the week", some kids just memorize things better when singing it in song form. It might be a pain in the rear, but she might just remember the words better if she can sing them in her head.

With my children, we practice the spelling list everyday until test day, and they seem to really do well with that. They always get A's on their spelling tests.

Is the spelling words too hard for her? I think your daughter should practice the words more than twice a day before she take the test. Practicing the test words only a night before the test makes thing very difficult for many students.

Help her sound out each or a pair of the letter in each word. She should spell the words frequently and make corrections immediately. Keep the spelling words, pencil, and a piece of paper in the car and help her practice while driving to school, after school program, or shopping.

My son is 5, in K and some of his spelling words for this week are seven, nine, and eight. He practiced these word a lot of times and before he left this morning he knew the ten words off hand. I think perfect practice makes perfect.

All the best to you and your daughter!
