Usually a child wants to be successful. If they are not finding success, there is almost always a reason for it - something getting in the way.

You say that he can read on grade level. This is great. But, perhaps there are some other issues.

How is he at following directions? Handwriting? Motor skills? Speaking/listening? Planning his approach to a project or task? Keeping track of time? What do you see at home or other activities?

If these behaviors are impacting his ability to progress, I would write a letter to the Principal requesting a full educational evaluation. www.concordspedpac.org has a good template to help guide you as well as other info on signs of trouble, types of evalautions etc.

In the meantime, if you haven't had his ears and eyes checked by medical professionals, I would do this. Make sure it is a test - not just a screen.

Best of luck!
