New High School in Chicago

LaToya
What is your thoughts on the new high schools, such as, Henry Ford Powerhouse Charter High school, only admitting Freshman students. I hear the new Westinghouse is going to be the same. I think that is a huge disadvantage to other CPS students in the various districts.

LaToya -

I only just ran across your question. I really don't know the politics around these new schools. But I have noticed that new schools or magnet programs anywhere, do often start out with the lower grades and add on as the students age up.

I imagine that this would be particularly true of schools with unusual programs who want to control the developing school culture. Also, if they intend to teach accelerated or specialized classes at the upper grades, incoming seniors from an existing local school will not have gone through the prerequisites.

Again, I'm only surmising, so you might want to attend whatever community meetings, and PTA meetings related to these schools to get the inside scoop.

YOU may want to try the "LOCALS". IT is where you ask a question, and go all the way down, but you have to be fast...ha, ha...that may help
