Does anyone have tips for joint custody?

Mckandzee51607
My son's biological father has (without discussing options with me first) put our 4 year old in school, now I have no problem with that other than being at a loss because the school is not close to where I live. I only get to bring him to school once a week. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with that without making my son feel bad that mommy can only bring him once a week? He's a little bummed.

I am a step parent and we do everything we can to make it easiest and comfortable on the child. Her father (my husband) and her mother get along well. The mother and I get along well. We try to remain close together in terms of where we live so that we cna share the responsibility that comes with JOINT custody. It is a shame that he did this without talking to you about it. I'd say at this point you have 2 choices.... 1) See what you can do about taking him to school OR 2) Talk to your ex about moving him to a school that is a compromise in terms of distance for both of you.

The bottom line is that your child's happiness shouldn't be compromised because of something the adult or adults chose to do whether it was a divorce or any decision after the divorce.

first it does not seem you have joint custody and if you do don't let your ex run over you. I once had this problem not only was it my spouses ex but the ex-mother-in-law I very nicely said if you keep screwing with me I will go back to court and you will lose that took care of it and that was a long time ago.
Now this is without knowing your circumstances.

Joint custody means to me every other weekend and visits during the week all arranged during the week. Make it clear to your ex that you two are tied togther through your child possibly grandchildren FOREVER!
Let your ex know you do not want your and his child to get bad "VIBES" from us and not to use the child to get to you. Children know even at four you have a tough road ahead.

That's really ashame, can you not get along with him??? The important thing is your son , DON"T give out bad "vibes",been there done that,!!! AT his age, don't talk about gas price's, children pick up on EVERYTHING, keep your conversation away, from the child.....This is a senitive subject....i suggest you look at the GROUPS to join....good luck, HON...
