IEP or dyslexia or ?

dreamdancing
My 14 yr old son has always struggled in school, but learns enough to pass all the standards tests. He didn't graduate from middle school but because he passed the exit exams is now in Vista Focus Academy, which we are not happy about but have tried so many approaches with no success. No behavior problems, doesn't get into trouble, creative thinker, compassionate, socially active, no substance abuse, suffers from migraines but is controlled with chiropractor tx & occasional meds. He has never been officially tested by the school district even though we've asked.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you smechede for taking time to post your thoughts. We submitted our request in writing to his school and to the district this week. I didn't know they had to do it within 30 days. I appreciate your support.

Request an IEP even if your son has dyslexia, he should get an IEP. If they don't hear you you may have to go to the district and tell them your school is ignoring your request. In California the school has 30 days to do an IEP once you request it. (You may have to fill out a form in the office). My son's IEP took 7 months but at least it got done.

Best of luck...
