What is the average cost of an afterschool program?

Anonymous
Afterschools that I have looked at seem very expensive for only 2 hours...more than some catholic or private school charges. Can anyone out there share the average cost they spend so I can compare and see if these places are just rtidiculously priced? Thanks!

Deltona, Florida = $40.00 per week at a public school.

My wife has a home child care... she charges $50.00 per week... but parents come after 6pm...sometimes as late as 7pm.

I worked as a custodian... I saw the afterschool kids in the cafeteria.... they just watched tv... also outside it was disorganized.... they were just running around.

One mom told my wife... here (with our childcare) my daughter doesn't have sand in her hair anymore.

My wife's friend went to pick up her 6year old at a public school and her lunch bag was missing. The mom told her daughter to ask the lady worker for help in finding it... the lady pushed the little girl as if to say "go home" (on the chest) but then saw the mom watching (in shock) and so the lady went to look for the lunch bag and found it under some book bag.

(The mom did file a complaint against that worker.)

I already know that these workers and some teachers scream. I also worked as a substitute in a high school during the school year.

( I do know some kids are horrible and others are angels .. the angels shocked me .. I never expected to find them in a public school high-school.)

Some of the afterschool programs at public schools in NYC are provided free of charge, through additional funding provided by the city or sometimes by local community groups. Our child could have attended an afterschool program at his school (ps 229), but we didn't need it.

What part of the country are you in, and is it a big city or more rural area? I hate to say this, but you'll find HUGE variations in price not only for afterschool programs, but tutors, home prices, etc. depending on where you live.
Private and Catholic afterschool programs are often staffed by parents, whereas professional daycares have to meet minimum wage and other requirements.
