Best public middle schools include: Ligon & Martin for strong academics, arts & electives, Centennial for cooperation with NCSU (magnet application). Leesville, Wakefield, Durant (base schools). These are the best Charter middle schools: Magellan, Endeavor, Exploris, Quest, Casa Esperanza (Raleigh), Voyager (Durham), Sterling (Morrisville), Franklin (Wake Forest) & Woods (Chapel Hill)

go to www.ncreportcards.org and check them out!

some are "traditional" - meaning a typical calendar and a regular attendance area. Some are magnet, and you must apply to get in. Some - beginning just 07-08 school year - are being opened as year-round schools.

Exploris Middle School is a great school. It is small and is also located in downtown Raleigh. Applicants are accepted by lottery system. I've heard nothing but great things about this school. Centennial Middle School is located on the campus of NC State - I have heard a lot of praise about this school as well as Ligon and Carnage.

From my own research it looks like Apex middle schools are strong as well as Martin Middle School and Wakefield Middle School in Raleigh. We are the same position and would like to hear more opinions on this subject.
