Moving from Brussels, Belgium to San Jose, CA area - would love school and community suggestions!

mspries
We are an American family with three (soon four) young children. We have lived out of the country since our oldest was only a few months old. Now that we are moving back, we must consider schools, which we haven't had to do in the US before. In addition, neither my husband nor I have lived in California, so we are unfamiliar with the best schools and communities to consider in the San Jose area for a family with young children. Any helpful hints would be appreciated!

Have you looked into Moreland School District? We live in this neighborhood and it's truly amazing. We have all the amenities of a major city within 5-minute-drive yet it's totally tranquil. All the schools in this district are great and some of them rank 10 out of 10.

Hammer Montessori is a great school. It is the only free Montessori school in Santa Clara County and is located in WIllow Glen in SJ. My son goes there and I love it! The teachers and test scores are great and the kids all look so happy and truly enjoy the school experience. You can live anywhere in SJ and attend. It goes from k-5. The website is www.sjusd.edu/schools/hammer. You can also look it up on Great Schools.

I pulled up the city page for San Jose for you so you can compare San Jose with nearby cities. I'm in San Francisco but I'm not all that familiar with San Jose. I do know that some of it's surrounding cities are considered to be very affluent with good schools. Take a look:
www.greatschools.net/city/San_Jose/CA

Here's a link to the nearby cities page:

I hope this helps and good luck with you move!!

I'm not from CA, but have you tried using the "Research and Compare" tab on the green menu bar near the top of this page? You can enter the location and grade level of schools that you're interested in, and see how they rank, and what others have had to say about them.....
