My child was in PS41 for the past 4 years. Overall, it is a GREAT school. The parents are involved and the principal is great. Some teachers are great, others are not. This is probably true for all NYC schools and the same applies here. If I get a great teacher, I rate the school well. If I get a teacher I don't like, then I would not rate it well. My child had a great teacher for kindergarden and third grade, She had a good teacher for second grade. Her first grade teacher was terrible and there was little I could do. The science teacher last year was new so she did not compare well to the previous science teacher. The music teacher is GREAT! The Parent Coordinator is GREAT! The current physical education teacher is BAD. The computer teacher and librarian are good. This is my opinion. Although my daughter's first grade teacher was ineffective, other first grade teachers were good. We had a great third grade teacher, but another class had a teacher who was out most of the semester and the children were adversely affected. The PTA and parents are very involved. The only negative is that more parents are not involved and people on the PTA leadership team can be a bit "cliquish". So...overall a great school, but there are no guarantees that your child will get a great teacher for every grade.
