If i have to choose between Broward, Naples or Orlando for a 7 yr boy , ESE student , where will you go?

amatistas
My kid has asperger sindrome characteristics with non verbal learning disability; also sensorymotor disorder and specific learning disability but with a 93 score in IQ (he is highly functional) I have to decide to move to Broward County or Naples area or Orlando area (orange county). Your advice is more than welcome!!!

hiya ok heres the deal i do not have any children ins chool right now my son is only 14 months old but i was a student at an ese/sed center in fort lauderdale called sunset learning center now known of as sunset school, the teachers are wonderful but between the administration and the schoolboard they are slowly destroying that school by taking away vocational programs such as culinary arts, the best teachers i ever had where there but the other staff are worthless
they used to have a culinary arts program there which would teach these children basdic life skills which considering they have problems this only helped them later on in life such as how to cook for themselves, how to clean up after themselves proper sanitation and more, it also prepared them for a job in the resturant industry which many will never be able to work but many will!!!!!!!!!!! so i would be very selective as to where you are sneding your child/children!!!

i went to sunset between 1989 & 1996 it was good then they had a greadt administration but anymore it is a worthles school that tax payers shouldn't be shelling out money to run when i was there we were taught respect, we were given unconditional love, we were given mroals and manors and more thats not the case at the so called new and imporved sunset yeah they got a new building how sweet the school itself is horrorible they were better off with the run down building and trailers having good teachers and staff, such as life whats more important a nice enviorment or a good enviorment!!!!!!!!!!! i can say there are still some dedicated staff there that are excellent with the students i am in touch with a few of them, but overall its a lose lose situtation @ the sed centers of broward county

Unfortunately, Greatschools is a nationwide forum, and the chance of finding someone in the same location with a child the same age and with the same diagnosis is slim. Magnetmom has given you a good suggestion, about posting your question in the Learning and Attention Difficulties Group, but I'd also like to suggest that you might try to contact some local parent support groups in Florida for children with Asperger's/autism, and see if they can give you more specific information about the best school districts for a child with the kinds of strengths/weaknesses that your son has.
