He is on about a 3rd or 4th grade level. Is there anything I could do for him at this point that is not to costly. His reading in the worst. I make him read all the time but he really hates to.

Your school should have noticed the ld? If he isn't a Special Education with and IEP and a BIP, you need to request that he get evaluated and send letter to principal requesting an ARD. If he is a s.e. with an IEP you need to send letter to principal stating that his IEP is failing and you want an ARD to determine what they are going to do to help your child to read at an 8th grade level? If you feel that you have not gotten your point accross you need to contact an advocate. try advacocy inc, lolalee liviingston, region 10 may be able to answer questions ask for Pam Baker. You may also try Partner Resource Network, ask for Daphny Cunningham.

My son is dyslexic and also in the 8th grade. We are in Richardson School District and they have a pull out class that does Scottish Rite program. I am told that Dallas school district has a school for LD. We did pull out for two years in grade school. Last year we were temporarily out of state and did a private LD school. The improvement was amazing. He went up several grade levels in both reading and math. This year we are back in public and he is in all AP classes. He has been making all A's and B's. I credit the LD school. If you are interested, Dallas Academy seems less expensive than some of the others.

Yes there is! Go to your child's school counselor or principal and ask for classes or even testing to help your child achieve his goals!

I used to teach math/computers at a school for LD kids. You should check out Fairhill School in Dallas. They are located on Preston Road just south of Plano. Their website is www.fairhill.org. Another school is Winston School....Good luck...JohnK
