why do carpenter parents disregard traffic laws?

Anonymous
we in the neighborhood surrounding carpenter elementary are thilled to welcome summer. No more incessant honking at 7:30 am and 2:30 pm. No more double parking, illegal u-turns, blocked driveways, and general rudeness.
Note to carpenter parents: PLEASE teach your children courtesy. People live in the surrounding neighborhood. Please be quiet and respectful of your neighbors.

Carpenter Avenue was opened in 1923 with 14 students. Like most older schools in the country the original intention was was neighborhood families to attend. Every school has traffic and parking issues, public, and private. Ask a neighbor of OAKWOOD SCHOOL or Rio Vista or Dixie Cyn. Ask any WONDERLAND SCHOOL neighbor and you will hear similar complaints.

This year the student population is over 840 students coming from as far as south of Mulholland and north Moorpark.
A very few selected families come from outside of the CARPENTER area.

View Laurel Cyn at 7:50 AND SEE THE HUNDREDS OF PARENTS and Students crossing Laurel Cyn many of whom walk thier children to school.
Yes, there are rude ignorant careless a$$h%le drivers who have children who attend Carpenter. The Carpenter volunteers try to educate parents on safest routes to school and how to avoid some of the traffic issues.
Unlike private schools the administration cannot kick out the bad apples who are not respectful of our schools neighbors. Sorry.....

Hi all,

I can safely say really poor driving skills happen around virtually all schools in my area. While the schools are overcrowded, and you'd think families would welcome brand new, state-of-the-art educational facilities, people in the neighborhoods oppose them for the same reasons you both mention.

I've been almost taken out in the crosswalk several times (I literally switch sides where my daughter stands walking through), and there are entire shopping centers located near junior highs that I avoid after 3 pm.

With school starting next week here in LAUSD (the rest of SoCal is already going back), now is a great time to remember to look for kids and use extreme caution around schools. And on the other hand, don't drive through the neighborhood at 65 mph just because you overslept.

HA! HA! I know exactly what you mean. I used to work at a local coffee house near Carpenter Elementary and many of the parents would come for coffee on the way to and from school. They let their kids run all over the store and play on the furniture (often unsupervised because the parents were to busy chatting with friends). I hate to stereotype but the parents in this area could use a little parenting themselves.
