You're not alone! Rather than give you a lengthy amount of information here, let me invite you to join Greatschools Learning and Attention Difficulties Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11554 and also www.millermom.proboards107.com, where I know plenty of other parents can offer you support and resources.
(One of my favorite is www.help4adhd.org, and I've found lots of great information in the old files at www.schwablearning.org/message_boards/ where you can enter terms like "Sensory Processing" and "sensory integration" into the area where it says "Search all discussions for (keywords)"

Welcome! I also invite you to the Learning and Attention Group - you'll find lots of knowledgeable folks that can offer good info and support.

In the meantime, Please run to your nearest library or book store for "The Out of Sync Child" C. Kranowitz. www.amazon.com/Out-Sync-Child-Recognizing-Integration/dp/0399523863 It is an easy to read book that will help you understand the disorder as well as great advice to help develop sensory abilities and compensatory strategies.

My daughter has recently been diagnosed as having Sensory Processing Disorder. Her psychologist suggested that I place a smidgen of Tobasco sauce on her tongue so she can be able to have her senses "awaken". She also suggested that I give her towel to chew on so she can become familiarized with the notion of chewing. I have educated myself greatly on this disorder since I know that my daughter been diagnosed. At first, I was in tears about this in addition to the other diagnosis that my daughter has. All I could say is go on the Internet and get all the information about this as well as look for a resources in your area that handles this disorder.
