I'm considering pulling out my 14 yr old daughter out of public school & enrolling her into a charter school..

but I'm not really sure if charter schools are better than the public schools here in SF. I would love to find out parents opinions about charter schools. Do you think charter schools are a better choice than public schools? I feel like the public HS my child is going to does not provide the assistance or guidance necessary to go to a four year college. The school is to big and my child is now lost in the sytem. Plus, I don't think this HS challenges her academically. I want to transfer my kid to another public school here in the city, but I have missed the deadline for enrollment to another school, and if I apply now, it is unlikely that my child will be accepted to the school of my choice because I will be competing with all the parents who are trying to enroll their children into the best HS here in the city. I'm confused and frustrated with the system. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions of how to deal with this issue?

Mercy SF is a great school!
Also look at the envision schools: Computer Arts and technology school (CAT) as well as Metro arts and technology.

Look at other public high schools in SF. Many very strong schools. Catholic girls schools usually have severe bullying problems. Not that secular private girls schools, like Miss Porters, don't. Google Miss Porters School CT to see what really goes on in private schools.

Don't give up on transferring to another public high school. Go down to the district office and work with a placement professional. Private high schools in SF are very weak, but do offer great grade inflation which can be a plus for college admissions.

Look at private. Mercy HS & ICA are fantastic girl schools that are not as expensive as the others. They also offer financial aid options....bottom line, they want to work with you.
