mdongw
In Newsweek's best high school Damascus high school is about 800th way behind most high school in the county. It's totally different from the rating here. It will be great if somebody can explain it. If I want choose a school for my kids which one I should base on

GreatSchools Ratings are based on test scores, so a high rating here on the site means that the school performed strongly on Maryland's state standardized test, compared to other schools in the state. I don't know too much about the Newsweek ratings, but I suspect that they look at more than just test scores and compare schools across the country to each other (versus just comparing schools within a state).
