Irvine schools and other schools..

We are currently renting in Irvine, and of course that means my son goes to one of the local schools here. We need a bigger home, and have a hard time finding it Irvine.The schools in Lake Forest, Mission Viejo or near by have a much lower score for over all.Why is the shools in Irvine better than elsewhere?

Two reasons. Socioeconomically, Irvine is very affluent. Two, there is a large Asian population in Irvine, and as a rule, Asian parents demand a lot of their kids in school. Better work ethic. I don't mean to stereotype, it's just what I've seen. We attend school in Tustin Unified, which borders West Irvine and we have a decent Asian population. I'm sure it helps our test scores. But don't pay too much attention to test score numbers. If you're in a reasonably nice area with low crime, and the school isn't inundated with English learners, you should be fine. You can break down those scores by demographic, too, and see where your child would probably fall.

Usually it has to do with a variety of things that probably come down to the families of the students at the school. Often times, neighborhoods with kids who have a nurturing and well rounded family environment will be better prepared and more successful in the area of academics. With students who have alot of parental involvement and support you will see higher achieving students. The better teachers often choose to work in districts where they feel they will have parental support and students who are eager to learn because of the quality parenting they receive. If you feel your family and your child fits in with this scenario, you may fit in better staying in Irvine. With fewer behavior problems in the classroom, kids can become more excited about learning and teachers can be more creative (because they're not disciplining all the time). Good luck, Debi
