What’s the best Mother’s Day gift you’ve given or received?

kkornas
I live 2,000 miles away from my mom, while my two brothers are still in our hometown. One of my mom's favorite things in the world is having her three kids together in one place, and this year, I'll be visiting the weekend before Mother's Day. My mom can't stop talking about how excited she is -- it's definitely one of the best gifts I could give her for Mother's Day!

How about you? What's the best Mother's Day gift you've received from your kids, or the best gift you've given to a special mom in your life?

i guess i am a little spoiled but i was only trying to add a little, tiny, itsy- bitsy, almost unnoticeable bit of humor. i must have succeeded with the unnoticeable part.
oh well father's day is coming and i'm sure my just turned 13 year old- i-poding [?] , instant messaging, texting and computering daughter and i will have a great day if i can only find a place to hide her stuff.......
It's so hard to choose because every year the gift I receive from my daughter is so special. This year she embridered my inital on a pillow case--it brought tears to my eyes. She is the best thing that has happened to me in my life!!!

Yesterday brought me two of the best ever gifts I've ever received and both will surprise you:

I woke up in a tent because our daughter's 7th grade learning community had a weekend camp-out. Imagine my surprise when I saw that my SUV had been TP'd and Saran-wrapped! I felt honored that the teens had singled me out -- along with their favorite teacher for this honor.

The second gift was a text-messaged card from one of my daughter's best friends -- plus a call.

I look forward and receive lovely cards and gifts from my family but it was delightful to receive cards, hugs and even a TP job from my daughter's friends.
You are a guy and you are not suppose to recieve a mother day gift. You have to wait till father day come, but if you just want a special gift and you act right toward your wife, girlfriend,or child then I think they should give you a small gift.you sound like you are spoil, but I say to you wait your turn will come even if you don't father a child, you will get something on your birthday.this message goes out to the guy who say he never got a mother day present.lol

I give Mary Kay products because it's a great organization who help cancer patients and women in need of help and support. I've used it for years and now sell it. I enjoy giving back and giving. My mom likes perfumes, lotions, foundation, etc... from this skin care company, And flowers and cards are a must. Every day is MOTHER's DAY in my book; no one needs a reason to give.
id say everything i get from my childrn big or small bought or made is all absolutely amazng!!!That and breakfast and cleaning from my hubby is great too!!!

My son who is six made me a card. He said everyday is Mother's day because you are there for me every day. I love you mom. Of all the cards he has made since preschool I'll treasure this one the most. I thought that this was really profound coming from a six-year old.

My eldest son turned 4 in April and this is the first time he has presented me a mother's day gift. At preschool he colored a beautiful card, which included a spot for his hand print, and he wrote his name on the back of the card. What a wonderful keepsake! His fantastic preschool teacher also had each child color a picture to go on the bottom of a see-through plastic plate. My son then arranged a banana, baby carrots, pretzels, cookies, and other goodies on the little platter and covered it with saran wrap "so the bugs don't get in", then he plopped a bow on top. When I arrived to pick him up at preschool, he was waiting with great anticipation (facing the door, staring at it), and proudly presented me with his special gift. The best part came when we got home. He asked me to sit down with him at the table and share the snacks, and we chatted and ate until it was all eaten up. I truly believe this was his first true, authentic, heartfelt experience with "giving". I would have taken a photo but I was caught in the moment, just being. What a wonderful gift - and milestone - certainly one that I will never forget!
I have to say your son is so sweet to make sure his mommy had a present.I know he touch your heart.I would have gave him plenty kisses and hugs for his thougthfullness.what a sweet and loving son you have.
I agree with you it's nothing like good old hand made things.the hat with the stickers I would love to have one,I am a mother so I know your mother would love your hat you made her.

When my only son was 5, my husband was sick, so unable to take him out to buy me something for Mother's Day. With my husband stuck in bed, my sweet little son took it upon himself to make sure I still had a Mother's Day. He made me TWO cards and wrapped up two of his favorite toys to give to me to open! The funny part was that he wouldn't let me come into the room he was wrapping the "presents" in, but through the door I got questions such as "how much paper would it take for something about as big as Cassie? (his favorite stuffed animal which he was wrapping for me!) and how much paper would I use for something like my music box? (this was the second gift!!) His thoughtfulness at such a young age, and the fact that he took it upon himself to make sure I had cards and presents to open made this the best Mother's Day I think I'll ever have!

Ten years ago my mother was dying of cancer and I could not imagine what mother's day gift would be appropriate under such circumstances. My mother had been deeply moved by the spiritual writings of a Benedictine nun. I contacted her and invited her to spend Mother's Day with our family in Iowa. We were surprised and delighted when she accepted our invitation! The five days she spent in our home sharing her poetry, photography, prayers, and love helped our family embrace my mother's death. It was the most amazing gift to all of us!

I made my mother a hat with all types of fun stickers, and colored all of these, with stickers such as top mom!

I think going to the a craft store where you can make mom a fun afternoon tea hat could be so much fun.

My brother one year made my mother a wood spoon in shop class that was further personalized with her name. He is really crafty, so he would go on to make a spice rack and so forth.

The best gifts are those you can make yourself! Be creative.

It's SO true when they say "The best things in life are free"... The most precious gifts can't be bought in a store. My favorite Mother's Day gift, was a simple letter from my son, that he scribbled on a sheet of copy paper while he was waiting for me at my office. He was 9 at the time, and I was a busy realtor and property manager, stretched thin yet determined to make all of his activities work: school, baseball, football, basketball. When your kids are that age, I guess you feel they don't yet notice the things you do for them. So it was VERY touching to receive his letter that said "Mom, I love you because I know you get off work at 5:30 or sometimes later, but somehow you never miss any of my games..."

Last month my grandmother passed away, he was her first great grandchild. This weekend will be a tough one for our family. Yesterday I was listening to some music while he was playing xbox in the same room, and I started crying, thinking of how different this Mother's Day will be, NOT shopping for her card and gift, but buying flowers for her grave instead. My son held me for a long time and THAT was the best Mother's Day gift I've gotten so far this year :)

My best Mother's Day was the second time we met our daughter. We met her for the first time at five months old in her foster home. We did not want to intrude on her foster Mother's day so we scheduled our second visit for mid week. On our drive home our daughter's foster Mom called my cell to tell me that the day we agreed to would not work due to a hockey schedule conflict with her boys and that the next day (Mother's Day) was the only day we could come back that week. As it turned out, she had "fibbed" because she wanted to make sure that I could spend that Mother's Day with my new (soon to be) daughter. This wonderful woman re-arranged her Mother's Day so I could be with my new daughter for our first Mother's Day together. Our daughter has been with us six wonderful years and needless to say, her foster family will always have a very special place in our hearts! Especially on Mother's Day.
This mother day I will spend it with my mother.I know my mother likes sweet potatoes, watermellon, and money,so she will be bless by me with this.my daughter makes me the most beautiful homemade cards and my son will take us all out to dinner.

My Mom also loves it best when both my sister and I and our families can all get together at the same time. What a precious gift, I hope to have that too when my children are grown. My children are little, but the best gifts are the ones they make with their hands. Especially a card with their handprint, I always cry because it's so special.

OK I got the best gift today from my 13 year old son and he doesn't even know it. We were sitting chatting this morning. He knew I was having his brother and sister tested for LD and the result meetings were this week. I had been alittle stressed about it. Sammy looked at me and said Mom.... The thing I love about you most is how you fight for your kids. You are alway there for us. I looked at him with tears in my eyes and said Thanks, Sam I try to be the best advocate for all of you. What a great kid I have. He touched my heart. I am so blessed.
The best gift is to have our son home to visit on Mother's Day.My wife and I have not seem him for about and year,he is in the 12th grade. We also like to know when graduration is.
we hope he is still in school, and doing well.,in the 12 grade,he told us.
Also he said he in in ROTC,do they have that there?
Like to know if he is doing ok..Thanks..........

The best Mother's Day gift I received was my Sweet Baby herself. She was born 3 months before Mothers' Day 2005 and we had her dedicated to the Lord on that Mothers' Day. That's the best gift of all.

I have the card my daughter typed for me in 2nd grade, it stays on my refrigerator -- at four sentences, it was the longest thing she ever written to me me. Looking at it still makes me happy.

When my son was 6 years old, he packed a picnic lunch (crackers, cheese, and fruit roll ups) for us, loaded the lunch and a blanket in his little red wagon, and walked it -- and me -- to the park down the block for a Mother's Day picnic. He plucked a bunch of dandelions for me and presented them in a boquet. It was foggy and windy, but he kept hugging me and saying, "Isn't this a lovely day?" I'll never forget that Mother's Day.
When my oldest daughter was 6, she and I planned to sing a duet at church on Mother's Day. I invited my mom to the service and didn't tell her we were singing. We sang a sweet song thanking God for "A Mother's Love". Of course, my mom was weeping by the time we finished.

That was her last Mother's Day on this earth.

My mother died of breast cancer 7 years ago, so Mother's Day is bittersweet for me. My two daughters are great at lightening my mood, but there's always an emptiness there. I urge anyone reading this, even if you don't have a great relationship with your mom, try to appreciate her and spend time with her. She is the only one you'll ever have.

I think the multi-generational Mother's Day is great. My mom is still living so she is really the "mom" of the mothers day celebration, being the senior mama and all. I am an only child and our son is my only child so every day is special and sort of a mothers day on it's own :)

My best gift was the diamond ring my boys bought me. My wedding ring had been stolen while we were on vacation. They were 9 yo. They asked me to take them to the mall and made me wait outside the store. It was the sunday before mothers day and they were all dressed up. They went in the store (looking like they meant business) and the ladies starting showing them things. I had no idea what they were going to give me. The next sunday they gave me the ring. It was about a 1/10 of a carat...but it is the most precious diamond in the world. I wear it everyday!

My firstborn daughter was the best gift that I received for Mother's Day. She is one of my little miracles. It took many years for me to get pregnant, and I began to think that I never would, so having her was such an amazing blessing. She and her dad both take turns having their birthdays on mothers day. I don't mind letting them keep the limelight though, everyday is Mothers Day to me. My children's love is the best gift that I could ever hope to have and the time to spend with them rounds a close second and a day of pampering comes in third.

Happy Mother's Day Mommies!

My first child/daughter. She was due on Mother's day but she did not come. But there was a Ben and Jerry's store where we lived and on Mother's day they were giving away free ice cream cones to mothers. I went in 9 months pregnant and they gave me two free cones which I was determined to eat even though I hardly had any room in my stomach due to the baby.

When I lived at home with my mother. I found an old photo of my brothers and I when we were little toddlers and my mother was a very young mother.

I decorated a big picture frame and enlarged the photo to fit the frame.

I gave this gift to my mother on Mother's Day with a note that said, No matter how grown up we become, you will always be a special mother to us.

Even though it was a picture she has seen before it made her day.

During middle and high school, my mom and I had a standing date the first Wednesday of each month. We would band together for cultural outings; we'd hit the science or one of the art museums, have tea (once at a bona fide English tea house)and talk our heads off.

So one Mother's Day, I think in high school, I offered to pick up the tab for our date and constructed a stack of elaborate hand-drawn gift certificates for an a la carte menu of mom fun. She was pretty impressed...but I was always the kid who gave hand-made gifts, so she already had a slew of paintings, drawings and woodshop projects from me. Mostly, I think, she was impressed that I was interested in footing the bill. :-)

I have 2 active Kids - ages 5 and 8. The best mother's day gift I received was breakfast in bed made and delivered to me by my children...and then my husband took the two kids out of the house until the mid afternoon. I laid around in bed, read magazines, and took a long, peaceful bath.
