Highland Park Elementary in Pflugerville is an extremely diverse school. My daughter is about to start her 3rd year there. She is going to into 2nd grade. We have awesome teachers. You can look it up on the Pflugerville ISD website. Each year we host a diversity fair. It is awesome. I believe on our website are pictures of our most current one. I know you posted this last year but hoping that it may still help.

We relocated to Austin 3 years ago from California. NOt sure where you are coming from.
All public schools are focued on Taks......they really have to be or their funding is cut for poor testing scores. There is a good and bad side of that of course.
Coming from California - we have found the public schools in Austin to be far superior.
I did my research and we purchased our home in the BEST schools within AISD (Austin Indep. School District). Elementary is Kiker, Middle is Bailey and High School is Bowie. There will be a new middle school next year however. These really are the next best thing to private in Austin (in my humble opinion). Though Small Middle School and Austin High are great.
There are a number of private schools - catholic, christian based etc. As well as some amazing Magnet Schools as well.
Eanes School District have some of the BEST schools in the State with Westlake High School being among the top, however you will definately pay for it in property taxes (to the tune of $20K a year).
One thing we have learned is that you can transfer schools within the district, as long as your child maintains a high GPA.
As for Neighborhoods to check out (without knowing your home price rage): Circle C Ranch, Shady Hallow, Westlake Hills, Lake Pointe, Onion Creek, Wimberley, Barton HIlls, Cherry Creek, Bee Cave, Steiner Ranch,
I personally live in Circle C Ranch.
