Moving from Minnesota to Sacramento Need Advice

WE are moving from Lakeville,Minnesota to Sacramento,Ca with 3 children. ages ranging from 8to 14. We are very excited. We would like to know the best locations to live in as far as safety and access to good schools and places to worship. All of my children are very talented as far as sports(basketball) and performing and Arts. They are also very smart academically.We would like to stay in the Sacramento area if it's nice. Please help.

There are some good performing art charter schools in the Sacramento area. Here is one 'Natomas Charter #19' you should look at the ratings for, I have a co-worker with kids in a different one I'll try to post tomorrow. Charter schools are public schools, but they usually don't have school boundaries, so as long as you are okay with the commute you could live anywhere and still go. They do tend to require parent volunteer time, so check that, and call the school for info on how to apply/get in.

I would rent here for a little while before you buy, and get a feel for it.. real estate agents aren't allowed to tell you what area is 'good' or 'bad' or 'steer' people towards certain neighborhoods, and prices have been dropping drastically due to all of the foreclosures.

May I suggest that besides checking out schools using the tools here on Great Schools, you can contact a real estate agent in the Sacramento area for all of the information you may need. I'm sure they'll be happy to provide you with assistance.
