tjlove
Hey everyone,
I'm curious to know how many grandparents we have in this community. Would you like to see a group created for you?

This year I became guardian of 4 grandchildren, I am a grandmother of 14, the group that live with me are sweet yet very trying, They are yet learning that I have rules and expect them to be followed ,at this point my 11yr old and 10yr old think I am straight from the dark ages.
I don't want to be so strict that they will not confide in me, but I am trying to instruct them in simple thing that should already have such as respect for their adult peers and each other, also the fact that fighting is not a good means to and end but a very bad way to destroy their future goals.
Grandparents give me some of your tips and dos and donts

mysticrose... Please be patient w/ yourself and your grandchild, they are smart and have the upper hand. If the parent is as you say and know; sometime all it takes is time. Pray daily that the child have the strength and guidience from our heavenly Father. I believe things will turn around right back to you and the child. You must have a strong relationship with her. Let her know that you love her and support her. It is hard to NOT try or want to take control, but we are the Grand- Parent... we must not interfere to the point where the parent is against us. Better yet, the relationship you have w/ your grand daughter hopefully has taught her lessons that are life long, so try being as kind and understanding to the parent so you can continue life along with your grand daughter in an appropriate and loving manner. That way the parent does not feel so threatened and slowly ; sometime even unfortunately WANT you to be more than just involved... I hope you are understanding my meaning. God Bless You. Where would we be without Grand-Parents! Helina

I am a grand parent that use to have custody of my grand daughter who is now 7 years old. We had her for amost 4 years. The mother got a free attorney and I couldn't afford one any longer. I felt like I had to give up. My grand daughter went back to her mother & has been mentally & physically abused on & off since. Children & Youth have been involved 3 times but the mother knows how to play the system. She will be what they want her to be till they close the case then she is back doing the same thing. When will my grand children ever stop suffering from a mother like this. Why would a mother ever want to treat her children like this. The most important thing to the mother is herself. Any information about a Grandparents Support group in my are would be nice.

One of our community members, who is a grandmother, created a group for grandparents. Check it out!

Yes i am a grandmother who is totally involved with my grandchildren and their schools... from 13 on down in age years. Sometime there isn't enough grandma and grandpa to go around! Although we are not married, we do share lovingly 14 grandchildren... I also have an 11 year old son.... I have many questions to share and invite any one to discuss the many difficulties that arise with our children and grandchildren. From after school activities to child care; and the list goes on... Thanks so much... Helina

I am a grandparent helping my son who is a single dad with custody of my granddaughter. My kids are now in their twenties and I homeschooled them from middle-high school. Both had learning disabilities and although they had IEPs which were not developed until middle school their fail cycle was leading towards dropping out. I joined this group with the hopes of connecting with others and am currently attending college classes in early childhood education. It's never too late to learn more to help those that you love;)

Absolutely! I am very involved in all 4 of my grandchildren's life and would love to be a part of their school, too!
