I am looking for an elementary school with strong Special education programs in the Washington, DC suburbs.

We are moving in the summer from the suburbs of NYC to the suburbs of Washington, DC and looking for school district with strong special education. I have 2 children: one with Dyslexia & ADHD and the other with ADHD. The children will be going into the 2nd & 6th grades in Sept. '08. At the moment, I have looking for homes in the Oakton & Vienna, VA and the Rockville, MD areas. But I am not sure if these have good special ed...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I know I'm a bit late. Sorry! If you are military, you may want to look into Fort Belvoir Elementary School.

I assume you're asking about public schools. By reputation, Montgomery County schools and Fairfax County schools tend to get higher marks. However even within those areas there are many people who have difficulties so it is of course not absolute. Both have reportedly been cutting back on their special education budgets -- Fairfax County in particular.

I, too, have a son with dyslexia and ADHD...Greatschools rating and compare system isn't set up to focus on special ed programs within schools, but they do have a "Learning and Attention Group" community.greatschools.net/groups/11554 where many more parents can be found, and hopefully answer your questions.
