Why not teach your 2nd grader at home! You can buy math books and books that he or she would like to read! Make learning fun!

Let me know where you live and I will see if I can come up with a tutor in your area. If your child is struggling, now is the time to get him some extra support so that he can have a positive experience with school. I agree that if there is a common concern with his teachers that he should be assessed to rule out any learning disability. A good reading specialist can help assess if this is necessary as well.

If your child is dealing with a Specific Learning Disability, the school should do an educational evaluation if you request it (you need to submit a written request) and, depending on the results, they may be able to provide remediation during the school day. If your child also has attentional problems, which are considered medical conditions, they need to be evaluated by a good doctor. Even the best tutor in the world can't instruct a child who is unable to focus and pay attention to what they're trying to teach. I would encourage you to join this Learning and Attention Difficulty Group on Great Schools, for more help from parents who share your concerns: community.greatschools.net/groups/11554
