In My Own Words

Well let's see...I'm your typical SAHM:) which means there's nothing typical about me. I have three daughters whom I adore and would do anything for to help them realize their dreams. When my oldest was in Kindergarten, they learned about The Liberty Bell, and she said she wanted to go see it, so we did; (we live in Georgia). So we made a family trip of it, and went to D.C. to the museums, and New York to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I want my kids to enjoy learning as much as I did. So I waver on a daily basis as to what the best educational options are for my kids. Right now private school is not an option, and Homeschooling is well, I don't know that its for us, plus I have to get my husband on board. So GreatSchools.net was very helpful in choosing a school that performed well. I am happy with the school, but I am thinking about the next stage. My daughter is only in first grade, but she has a strong interest in science and math. I would like her to go to a school where she would be encouraged to pursue those avenues without the usual negative peer pressure or utter lack of encouragement from teachers due to "burnout". Over the last seven years, I've been trying to figure out what I wanted to do when "I grow up". Well I figured it out. I'm going back to school, to work in education. Close to where I started but nowhere near where I thought I'd be. Pet peeves, teachers that don't seem like they really care about what they are doing, and teaching to the test, I think that is doing a great disservice to our children. They are too bright to not give them a real chance to show who they are and what they can do. I am very excited about childrens physical health and fitness as well. I think that children today, especially in GA do not get enough physical excercise, they are pent up in classrooms for instructional time, because they have to pass the test, and its leaving their bodies with no avenue to release that built up tension. It's also setting them up for Type 2 Diabetes, and a sedentary lifestyle.

Parents I'd Like to Meet

I'd like to meet other parents who are concerned about their kids emotional needs. Moms who go to school too, as well as have a family, and those who just want to help make the system really work for our kids, so that they can have a great start.
