As a mother of four, my children's education has been always a priority in my life, being a teacher myself with 25 years of experience at different levels and in a totally different part of the world, i put a lot of effort to adjust to the new environment, I have a master in education and was a teacher trainer at Bethlehem university, in Bethlehem a small nice city the birth place of jesus, hoping that some of you would know where it is on the map, as usually people here in Miami would ask me strangely where is that? I'm trying my best to learn more about american schools , and how is the education system in Miami, I have a son and a daughter who are studying at the FIU university and they get top honors, and are not able to get a scholarship or even a financial aid, since they didn't finish the high school here in America, and i put my other children one in a charter school and the other in a private one, just for the sake of having an idea of what is going on at the education level, in my opinion my older kids received a better education studying in Bethlehem the west bank which is considered a third world country, after 2 years here in Miami it is not too early to give a judgement , my kids find schools super easy in comparison to their schools there, besides I don't feel they are progressing except for their english language which was good enough, we thought that our schools back there depends on rote learning and we worked hard with teachers to help students obtain the skills and strategies of effective learning, to try to build their thinking skills , but I think the schools there better prepare students for their university education, they equip students with learning for life, by putting them in different situations where they need to find solutions and how to be creative. I should comment here on one project my daughter brought home and it was for the history teacher here in Miami, the teacher gave them different situations where they need to put a financial plan, and my daughter was a lawyer with a certain amount of salary and she had to deal with a loan, this I felt happy to see my daughter trying to look for solutions for her financial problem and she ended her report by saying that now she knows what her family goes through in trying to deal with life in America,i was really happy and impressed.
