In My Own Words

As a parent who's become increasingly frustrated in the past with the lack of options in South Atlanta, I've decided to finally take a stand and do whatever I can to help make my neighborhood schools close the gap and provide a quality education to all children. Recently, I've become more active in all of my children's schools and I'm more convinced than ever that although no one can do everything, everyone can do something -- apathy and complaints do nothing but exacerbate the problem. I'm a parent of five children, ranging in age from 29 to 8, so I have some expereince with all stages of children and their assorted joys and pains. One is a college graduate, another currently attending college, with the remaining three still at home. Personally, I've been known to be straight-forward, open-minded, blunt (but not rude!), intuitive, compassionate and honest; with a slightly twisted sense of humour. I have a strong sense of loyalty and I love to fight for society's underdogs. I hate ignorance of any kind and shallow-minded individuals. Although I may not agree with a particular position or issue, I'm capable of seeing all sides and try to attain understanding of different views and opinions at all times.

Parents I'd Like to Meet

I'd like to meet other parents who want to contribute any time or resources to their schools in order to affect change. As I plan on joining my school's PTA chapter as part of the fundraising committee, I'm very interested in meeting others who have raised money for their schools and sharing resources and ideas. I'd also like to meet parents who are cocnerned about standardized testing and the effect it has on the quality of education in American schools.
