My most favorite memory, as my daughter's mother, when she began to talk, after a plethora of professionals said, collectively, "she will never speak." Now, she talks all of the time, and it is meaningful. She is really a blessing.
My pet peeves, as a parent, are many. One of the strongest, are the difficulties trying to get my child the appropriate treatment (s) and assistance she has needed for her challenges. During my pursuits of attempting to attain all of this, many, many professionals treated me as a "Psycho, Inept..." and worse. However, this only fueled, and still does, my pursuits on her behalf. Another peeve, now, I am an advanced practice nurse with a speciality in psych, and many of the same professionals, treat me with respect.
The aforementioned is an issue which "gets me excited," how parents and their children are treated by some, not all professionals, as I was; the parents have not commited any crime or crimes but only are struggling to find help for their beloved children so that they, may too, have all of the opportunities other children, who may not have similar challenges, have been afforded. Other issues that "get me excited" are advocating on my daughter's behalf and others, especially in the local schools, to ensure that all needs are addressed and met.
Whoops, I forgot to mention another pet peeve, not all children, or even adults, who are wiggly, out-spoken, defiant, etc., need psychotropic medications. There are other interventions; each situation should be evaluated with care before such are implemented.
Parents I'd Like to Meet
All parents as I believe I could learn so much from all that I come into contact with.
