In My Own Words

I have 2 daughters adopted from China. One excels at almost everything (academics, sports, and music), while the other continues to struggle with speech and language. I am concerned about finding the right middle school for the child who struggles (now in 5th grade) -- I want her to be well-educated, but not so challenged she becomes discouraged. Both children attend an 'excelling' charter school. My learning-disabled daughter has gotten excellent services there, but in 5th grade it has become a little too challenging. She spends an average of 2 hours a night on homework, with tutoring from me. I currently work part-time, but my job will be ending at the end of the year. I am grateful that I will have more time to focus on my daughters' education and transition to middle school. Both my girls are my greatest joy and I am constantly thankful for the blessing of being their mother.

Parents I'd Like to Meet

I would love to meet other parents who: - have learning-disabled children who are middle and high school. (I am fairly knowledgeable about learning disabilities and special education in elementary school, but do not know how this translates to secondary education.) - have experience with the social aspects of girls in middle school (cliques, peer influence, etc.) - spend a significant amount of time tutoring and helping their children with school work - children who are involved in music, particularly outside of school (private lessons, city youth symphonies, etc.)
