In My Own Words

I am 40 years old and have 4 children still living at home and 5 children off to college. I enjoy spending time with my children at the park, carnivals, amusement parks, go-carting, mini golfing, horseback riding, bike riding, watching movies and just talking. I guess you might say my biggest pet peeves with my children are the words "I can't" because I know they can, and their lack of interest in their chores. Another huge pet peeve that I have is how public schools can do what they want, when they want even if it cuts into the education of the children. The school can set up a mentor program without consent from the parents in which the mentor takes the child out of much needed class instruction time to play games and give the children candy that they don't need. The principal can have things such as movie mania and play with the principal day, where again the kids are missing valuable class instruction time. The teachers push their jobs on to the parents, sending the child's work home with a note attached "please teach your child this" or "please do this with your child" as if working parents have the time in their schedules to teach the children that should have been taught in school. After all...isn't that what teachers get paid for...to teach?

Parents I'd Like to Meet

I would like to meet other parents in my school district that are fed up with paying for our children to go to school only to have them score poorly on the ISTEP because the teachers and principal won't do their jobs. We need to take control back of our children's environments. As parents we have the right to decide what kind of people are around our children and to make the schools provide the kind of education that they should be providing.
