In My Own Words

Hello, I am a Mom of a 23 yr. old and a mom of a 7 yr. old. My eldest son is special needs. I was told by Doctors at a very young age, both him and I that he would never walk, talk, sit up or eat by himself. Well he is very much walking, talking, and at 23 eating very well. He in the past has played baseball, soccer and is currently on a bowling league with adults his own age. I also taught him to read with Hooked on Phonics when the school gave up on him......I didn't. He could of easily been put to the side and left alone to do nothing for himself, however with God on my side and the will to make a better life for him, with the help of my hubby and his and my family we all pitched in and pushed him forward. He is active and very socialable and loves life. Parents of special needs, don't give up on your children, its a long and hard road but rewarding in the end.

Parents I'd Like to Meet

If I could help just one person struggling with a son/daughter with special needs. I would feel a sense of accomplishment and I would give all the glory to God for helping me when I saw only darkness at the end of the road. I saw no way out and felt like I was drowning. I still do get frustrated, believe me its still a challenge everyday. However God knew what he was doing when he gave us our son with special needs. Its a big challenge to take on, however God knew we had love and patience and thats basically all we needed.
