Hey, I'm a Junior in high-school. I know this site is directed mainly towards parents, but it also seems to be a good place for anyone involved with or concerned with education. Which I would say describes me perfectly. In general, I love school. But I can easily see the US education system is far from ideal and I think it is up to parents, teachers, and students to come together to help congress perfect it. An example of a problem is that I live in a bilingual community with a lot of Mexican immigrants. Many of the students speak Spanish in the home and don't function very well in English. I know a few of those students that are in high-school and literally can't read English. But there isn't any sort of program to help those students learn English and none of the teachers speak any Spanish (with the exception of the Spanish teacher, of course). Its issues like these that hold our young people back from their full potential and I get the most worked up about.
