In My Own Words

Our little one just had her 4th birthday! My how time has flown! :-) She is VERY, smart, busy, inquisitive, caring and thoughtful. She has a seizure disorder, asthma and a mild speech impairment so we monitor her health and health care needs VERY carefully and partner with her doctors/health care professionals, support groups and school personnel to provide her with the best resources in monitoring/controlling these ailments. My husband is completing his certification in Special Education. I am a former Pre-School Director and educator. My husband and I are raising her to be a conscious, global learner who cares for others, the environment and community service/volunteering in addition to excelling in academics. Our goal is not to steer her into any one particular field in the future as our parents did for us but to allow her to find her own niche and career choice. My husband and I are firm believers that in order for a child to be a confident citizen, the parent MUST be involved in their child's life. i.e. School PTA, Field Trips, Extra-curricular Activities, Know who their friends are AND their parents, Participate in expanded activities beyond the school such as the Detroit Zoo, Detroit Institute of Arts, Cranbrook Science Center, Henry Ford Museum, Piston/Shock/Red Wing games, Outdoor activities (camping, the park etc.) Even in this horrible economy, their are SO MANY activities that do not involve spending a dime that parents can involve their children in such as picnics, parks, bike riding, swimming at your municipal pool etc. Our pet peeve is parents who think the school /instructor(s)should be their child's sole source of learning and parents who are not involved in their child's education. Parents MUST be partners in their child(ren's) education.

Parents I'd Like to Meet

We're interested in meeting parents who have interests similar to ours in regards to raising and educating globally conscious learners.
