In My Own Words

My children are grown up and out on their own but I have a precious little 5 year old grandson that just started school this year at one of the GreatSchools in Lansing, Michigan. My goal is to keep up with his educational opportunities and make sure that he is gets the best education for him. And I hope that some of my experiences, good and bad, from the past can help some newer parents. I will also have questions to ask to get help from some of the young parents. One of my pet peeves is when SOME people seem to care so little about education of our children, our future. Another peeve is how the children behave toward one another in school! Why are we not teaching them to be disciplined? With all of the violence and bullying in the schools today, those in charge (at home and in school) need to better understand the impact on the abused children and deal with the situations. I feel I have earned a right to see to it that the kids today have a good learning evironment and teachers that care about doing a good job rather than just doing time. If they don't want their jobs, there are others that do. I plan to be very vocal about this in the coming months. Plus I am retiring soon so maybe I can do some volunteer work around my grandson's school to help out. When Hillary Clinton said "It takes a village to raise a child" she was absolutely right. We must all treat all children with love and respect.
