I am not only a mother of two wonderful children (1 and 7) but I am also a teacher. I have been working in the childcare field for over 15 years and have worked with every age group from preschool through high school. In addition I have worked with multiple special needs and EL students.
Nothing disgusts me more than a teacher that gives up on a child or believes that they can not achieve. It is our job to work in conjunction with the parent to make an environment where they can all achieve and it is our job to educate ourselves and adapt ourselves to new teaching methods and strategies that make learning accessible for every student.
As a parent, nothing outrages me more than a lack of classroom management or an assumption that a child has a predisposition to a certain behavior or prejudging a child. Behavior and learning on a day to day basis depends on multiple factors and unless the teacher is 100% involved in that child's life, they may not know all of the circumstances. However, parents that just throw out every excuse in the book are just as to blame. A child must learn to be accountable for their personal behavior, or else that child will never learn how to deal in the real world. The parent is also responsible for the other 50% of the child's learning process. They must inforce rules, assist with homework, read with their child and become a partner with the school to create a well rounded and accountable child.
Parents I'd Like to Meet
I am willing to be of aid to any parents that need some advice. I believe in being an advocate for the parents as well as the students and feel that often times school avoid informing parents on all of their rights.
I was a single parent for 5 years and understand working and trying to do everything possible to meet the needs or a very busy little boy.
