In My Own Words

I am a retired Grandmother, and my husband is a retired minister. We are raising the child of my deceased daughter. I raised five of my own children; I was completely involved in the education of my grown children, and now am equally involved in the education of my grandson. I am dismayed by the fact that the schools today, at least where I am, resent parental involvement; it remains to be seen how the future of my grandson's new experience with middle school evolves when he enters and begins a new experience this next school year. One of my favorite teaching methods with homework for my children and grandchildren has always been to teach them to remember a difficult lesson by putting the questions and answers to a favorite song and music they love. It is quite effective and fun at the same time. I have also taught all of my family members NOT to cram for a test; instead, watch a good movie and/or do something they love -- after reasonable study of course. It clears the mind, is relaxing and the necessary information remains and does not get confused in the mind.

Parents I'd Like to Meet

I would like to meet other parents that are concerned about the quality of the education their child is receiving; other parents that are concerned about a school system that discourages parental participation and feedback; other parents that may have encountered a principal, teacher, school board that is only concerned with "politcal correctness" and the issues of parents and students are secondary.
