In My Own Words

I am the mother of two boys who are currently in 4th and 6th grade at Kohler Elementary School in North Highlands and we are moving very soon, within the same district but to a different area (95815) There is not a very good choice of schools in that area and I want to enroll them into a better school but I have missed the open enrollment for 2009-10 school year. I delayed enrolling them because I was not sure where we were going to be moving to. Now the only school choice I have is Martin Luther King Jr, for my oldest who is going to be starting middle school next year. I am very frustrated that they are not more choices for him. I am involved in the School Site Counsel at Kohler and my boys are in the Afterschool program that has been great for them and for me! Because I am a working mom, the afterschool program sponsered by YMCA has been a lifesaver!

Parents I'd Like to Meet

My youngest son is on a medicine for Attention Deficit. It has done wonders for him in his being able to stay focused in the classroom! he has been on the meds for about 2 or 3 months and now he is all of a sudden having behavior issues and is refusing to finish school work and homework! Anyone else that has a child with this same issues would be great to meet or talk with. He is not an extreme case I think he only needs the meds to just help him keep focused he is not hyperactive.
