In My Own Words

Hi, my son and I are US citizens but have been living in Europe for the past 10 years. I am seriously considering moving to the Bay Area as my sons father lives there. Jacob is now 13 and bilingual and is an avid reader, (mostly in the English language). However, he really struggles in school as he is very disorganized (perhaps dispraxic, perhaps also has disorganized lazy boy syndrome??? Anyway I don't know much about American high schools, I don't know what K12 is. I have read about chartered schools and I believe this approach is what would suit us. However it seems that chartered schools are very much depending on who is running them, as is always the case with all institutions. So I am looking for inside information on schools for my 13year old in northern California. how he would be assessed and accepted, but most importantly do you think that the school you know is a positive fun environment for children. I will be very grateful to anyone who can send me any insight. Thanks in advance for any information Eilis About us....I am a midwife and work privately carrying out midwifery services and home births. My son would like to be near his father and continue his education through the English language. We are both apprehensive of American schools because of what we see on television in movies and documentaries and to be quite honest the drug and gun culture. I imagine it is all less dramatic than we fear, but we would love to hear from you.
