In My Own Words

We used to live in a town-home in Colorado. I'm a full-time working professional with extended hours, often. Friends have been limited, especially since moving to Mississippi. One day, we've just gotten home from work and picking up the kids at day care, when the doorbell rings and my 5 and 9 year-old children yell, "Yay, PIZZA!!!" (which was not who was at the door... I think it was only UPS,but still...that made me laugh and realize: Too much food on the run and not enough family friends to dispell the thought that every time the doorbell rings, it had to mean food.) Pet Peeves: When parents say things like, "Weeeelllll, I know I let my child stay out too late, but I didn't want to make him mad.. ." (In other words, when parents let their kids control their household and avoid discipline so they can "be friends".) This probably comes from me being a mental health/ behavioral health therapist and seeing way too many kids treated this way who don't learn consequences and thus, are usually headed for jail. It's frustrating for me to see parents not act like role models for their kids, respect their kids, yet discipline and reward them when it is needed to help them grow into responsible people.

Parents I'd Like to Meet

I would like to meet parents balancing professional careers and home life; Parents who want to spend some "couples time" for the parents and for friends of the family. My husband and I like to play dominoes, are interested in spaids, learning poker, or other fun games to play while maybe drinking a low-level amount of adult beverages. We are Methodist and interested in meeting people with similar faiths or who are open-minded in their acceptance of others. We have a gifted son going into the 5th grade who also plays soccer and a daughter going into Kindergarten. We are all still adjusting to the south, though I am from AR. My husband is from CA, but was stationed in AR at the LRAFB when we met. We lived in CO for 8 years and only left so our kids could be near their grandparents (my parents) and great-grandmother in AR. My husband's real outgoing and I am somewhat outgoing, yet not into the "high school drama" attitude of some women in the area. (I often connect with women older than my own age, which is 37.) If any of these issues interest anyone, too, please let us know. We are really wanting to find people who like to engage in family activities and hang out in a casual way.
