GRADE RETENTION things you should know first....
A lot of parents and educators are under the misconception that retaining a child in the lower grade levels has no long-term impact (negative impact). Sometimes the child will improve academically in the lower grades, but the impact will be felt later. I've only encountered a few parents who did not regret retaining their child.
If a child has a disability that affects learning, it is particularly important to have them evaluated and have their disabilities addressed appropriately via specialized instruction, services, assistive technology and more. If a child has a disability retention only increases the probability they will drop out of school later on.
