Has your states budget crisis affected your foster or adoptive child's services and or subsidy? I adopted through the foster care system in Illinois. My sons services has been discontinued. I just found a new therapist for him however I do not know for sure if the state will pay for the services or will I have to pay for it out of pocket and get half the subsidy money to boot. If anyone out there is in the same difficult position please respond.

PS. Thanks to a lawsuit filed by the ACLU against DCFS and the director's very true and forthright testimony services for foster and adoptive children have been restored.
On July 16th, the State's FY2010 budget was passed much to the disappointment of the social work community and the human services provider arena. Funded by borrowing that the State has to repay, plus hundreds of millions of dollars in interest, the FY2010 budget ameliorates some of the "doomsday" cuts originally proposed by the Governor. The source of funding for this budget is not a much needed tax increase, but one-time non-renewable sources of funding.
Thanks MagnetMom, The recession and individual states budget crisis is hurting so many people. Our Gov. Pat Quinn is making a bad situation worse by causing fear and panic among human services agencies in IL. He keeps telling them he does not know how they will get paid and he caused s much fear and panic that many human service agency closed their doors.
I can't say I have the same situation with foster or adoptive services, but many school and social services are being cut in a variety of states. California is discussing abolishing its Cal Grant college aid program for students graduating in 2009 and later. And the "Healthy Families" insurance for low-income families.
Keep fighting and know that you're not alone in being sidetracked during this budget mess.
