does it seem strange to you that until the 1990s not only where all Disney characters (and dolls)  white but NONE of them have blue eyes? Whether in a cartoon or with people? (My son is watching Mary Poppins right now)

Or am I looking to deep into this...?

Re: A bit off topic but....
I don't know I guess I've never noticed ( I did notice the lack of diversity) that none of them had blue eyes.

A bit off topic but....
I don't know about not having blue eyes never bothered to look. I do noticed that all the shows on disney and 33 nickalodean are white children. Boys and girls one show it's Cory's house he's black but acts white as hell and has few african-american people in this show. WHY? I don't. I do know. That's for another day. I have joined your group to chat debate and to see others point of view from my stand point it looks that we are the only two in the group so make it interesting. Asl a really good question or ask one of me. I love debating it's in my blood and I yearn to learn and to teach. My name is Stop It Enough I adobted it for myself and my life right now and going forth it fits. Do you have a aka and let's get it started Debate or topic. But right now I don't see any. Peace and one love. has your child(ren) endore racism. Where are you located? How many Children? What's your nationality? To get personal is only to know and understand better. i am honest and I care more than anyone person can know, I hope to hear from you soon.

Re: A bit off topic but....
The longing for vanity is a dark and lonly road and you pave the stones for your demise. Do you understand what I am saying? Again I am not being disrespectful. It's not a big deal. But that has nothing to do with diversity. African americans have blue eyes and both parnets are of african american roots. So what are you really saying or are you naive. Again really it's nice responding to you and talking about this but see the real reason why you asked such a good question. I am on the computer for a long while tonight. If you want to keep responding like this this is cool or if you want to chat on meebo.com in the chat rooms you click on type in the box to look for a room rizsas and I'll be there just respond through here and I'll meet you there. I am a very honest person and I am not trying to disrespect you in any way I am keeping it real and writing to you what I see. So if you want to continue this with me that's cool But I didn't find your remarks LOL In any respect. So let's get serious and talk the only thing that separtes us is a screen and the power of our minds. One question for you well two can you answer those questions in my first responds and are you a christian or do you believe in a creator. Like I said. It's to know you better to communicate better. Not to be disrespectful. Stop it enough and one love respect talk later

Re: A bit off topic but....
oh hmmmm no i guess the "LOL" was more of a laughing at my self. I am native a merican and trust me I don't look like Pocahontas at this point in life... I guess I'm not as clear in communicating on line as I should be. But no racism is not a laughing matter to me; I think there is a greater spirit but not really ready to commit to saying I'm a christian. I don't know much about the chat thing, I guess I'd have to learn about it to see if I can even do that on my computer. But I've been gone so I did not have time to look at it today, maybe this weekend.

Re: A bit off topic but....
oh and are we only talking about disney cartoons, or old stuff or ?? I know that I've watched the Disney channel with my kids a few times and - I thought Raven Simone was black? granted i haven't watched it in a while - but that show was on ALL the time on Disney. She also had some songs out too right? So - is it the absence of diversity or is it the portrayal of a race that is upsetting? because... just because a race is included does not mean its "all good" if you know what I mean. I know I pointed to the Pocahontas example... but that character caused alot of uproar in some of my native friends due to the inconsistency in the way the character was portrayed and what would have been the real life version.

Re: A bit off topic but....
I do believe pinocchio, dumbo and cinderalla, and dopey all had blue eyes. That's just off the top of my head. Not sure why it would matter though. Most of their characters aren't even human, so not sure how they could be white. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Winnie, etc.

A bit off topic
You don't have to commit to any religion as long as you are centered with the creator or whatever you call the person or being you worship. Yeah Raven is a african american. but that has nothing to do with it it's the white culture exploting the african american culture. Example:a car commerical a family of all white people are ( the adversitors) dressing these kids in urban wear and having them throw hand signs and protraying a gangster. Now in the disney show I am talking about Cory's house and that's so raven yes they are black but the atmosphere is to appeal to white comsumers. meaning the talk the behavior the attire is to protray something they are not. No racism just indifference. It's upsetting to me as a african american woman to see so much in difference bot only on tv or in the work place or in resturtants but in schools and children younger and younger are experiencing it to such a different degree. Your native american do you live on the reservation? Do you work with you people and tribesman who do if you don't to change the way the government treats them and how people still whisper and talk about native americans. Your people are successful, intelligent, traditional. So are mine. And when we see not only the similarities in our journey through the past, presence then we can see the future for what it's surpose to be. Again I wasn't being disrespectful I understand where your comin from..... Your responds are intelligent and you are a very nice woman. I appreciate the fact that you are taking your time to chat with me. You can type in www.meebo.com and if you already have a yahoo instant messenger or a aol or a couple more you can sign in meebo.com under the name and password. If you don't you can set up a meebo account and then when that's done click meebo chat rooms or something along those lines then you can type in a box that says search for rooms or something along those lines and type in rizsas and link me on here or email me at meetoo53@hotmail.com and I'll meet you there. How old are your boys? Or how many children do you have? Boys and girls? I have one child. A boy. Young 5 and I raised sister and brothers and counsins so alot of parneting in all situtations. YOu know. Well I'll write so I am sorry it took so long to write back started doing things around the house well I hope to talk to you soon.
One love peace and respect

Re: A bit off topic but....
there are no reservations where I am from - I'm not from NC originally. So no I did not and do not live on the res. You know, I can see where you might be upset at the portrayals of afro-americans in the media (I took a course about native american imagery in the media) - but you know with tv shows - those are your people on there taking the money to be on there doing what they're doing. they are obviously ok with what they are doing. Not everyone within the same ethnicity shares the same views.

Re: A bit off topic but....
I think Mulan, Pocahontas, Brother Bear, Lilo and Stitch, and Aladdin were attempts at diversity, but I'm not sure they work. Honestly, what concerns me just as much, if not more, are the unhealthy body types they're portraying for girls, and the lack of positive mother figures. Most of the protagonists do not have mothers and/or the evil person is a woman (wicked stepmother, Ursula, the witch in Sleeping Beauty, etc.)

Re: A bit off topic but....
I wasn't speaking for the afican american culture in it's interity I was speaking from my spirit my soul. This is what I see and best believe that situtation we are talking about is not what makes me upset about racism. Google william lynch. learn about all cultures and yours find your inner wisdom. Look at things in a different light. You don't have to but let me tell you you'll see it for what it is and instead of what they want you to see. I'll write lata peace and one love respect

Re: A bit off topic but....
hmmm I googled willie lynch, seems there is a bit of speculation about him... but one thing I have grown up with is this: no one has power over your thoughts about yourself unless you give it to them. I worked as a mentor with young at risk african american girls; I tried to teach them to KNOW their history and be proud of it. Many did not know famous black figures or musicians or history of music or much history at all. I was glad to help even one person find joy in their heritage. The problem is that the youth need to be TAUGHT. How can we expect positive self esteem and self image to be taught to youth by people who may not want to do it; let's face it some teachers are forced to teach multiracial classrooms when they don't want to. Not saying it is right; I'm just saying I have noticed a true difference in people based on the influences over them as a child growing up. There IS a difference in those who were taught to be proud and take their place versus those who were left to fend for themselves. How do you get from where we are to where we want to be?

Re: A bit off topic but....
prior to the 90's there were a few Disney movies, such as Jungle Book (1967), The Three Caballeros (1944), Condorman (1981) and Never Cry Wolf (1983). Since the 90's there has also been movies such as, Mulan, Aladdin, lilo and Stitch, Emperor's New Groove, Pocahontas and more. Also, in 2009 Disney is supposed to release "The Frog Princess" This movie will feature Disney's first African American princess.
