Do any of your kids do cheerleading?

My DD has been doing cheer for 3 years now.She loves it,even though every year she makes B and not A.

Im amazed at how the other kids, coaches and parents treat these kids on the B team! Myself and a few other parents have voiced our concerns, that we feel it should be more about good sportsmenship, and having fun. I dont approve of  my towns cheer organization. I dont want to make my daughter who in only 11 to give it up. But I have discussed with her why I dont approve.Never have I witnnessed such snotty attitudes, promotion of short skirts and tight clothing.

I have been seeking private cheer thru private gymnasium.

I cringe every year at the very thought of having to go and sit with these people at the games!

My daughter has a very good attitude about all of this, she doesnt care what others think. As she puts it "no one is gonna stop me and my dreams" which is awesome. It's me

Im the one who feels anger, how can I keep my feelings seperate as so it wont affect her.?  I do appologize to her and I really dont want my feelings to affect her decisions. But after I hear some of things she tells me and I over hear.I just wanna scream!

thanks for letting me vent

Re: feel like screaming!

Well.....we are entering our 6th year in cheerleading my household.

We started off in Pop Warner Cheerleading, the thing I really try and remember will all of that is that it IS volunteer, the coaches are volunteers and they run it the best they can. I have seen people try and run a Pop Warner Cheer organization of 100 girls and do not have any idea what cheerleading really is and what a sport is has really become.

If you and your daughter really do love cheerleading, I would highly suggest looking into Cheer Gyms in your area. I don't know where you live, but I would be happy to refer you to some.

My daughter has truely become an athlete, not only can she tumble, dance and stunt but she also has learned a strong work ethic and how to work as a team, even when you do sometimes have to sacrafice for the good of a team...meaning being on a B team instead of the A team because they REALLY need you on the B team.

As far as being snotting and dealing with snotty attitudes that can happen in ANY sport or activity, I personally just choose to kill those people with kindness and intern, has been less stressful on us.

I hope you consider looking into a Cheer Gym in your area and a great way to start is just to sign her up for a tumble class, that will allow you to get the feel of it and meet the coaches.

Hope that helps!

Re: feel like screaming!
Hey all,
Well my DD has decided not to join cheer again.Amen!
She said maybe next year. She'd like to give it a break and see what after school activities are going to be available in Middle School. She wants singing lessons!I said "no problem" you got it. ;)
Her and I are both going to try Tai Chi or Yoga?
Any one do this? Which one is better? We both have anxiety,so Yoga would be better for this? but Tai chi gives you strenght and balance, which she really could use.
Thanks,
