I'm not a big fan of video games but I'm very intrigued by the Wii.  The idea of getting people off the couch and moving while they play video games seems like a step in the right direction.  But they've taken it one step further with the Wii Fit.

The Wii Fit features over 40 different activities from yoga to a hula challenge, all which are to be performed on a balance board.  The balance board is supposed to keep your body aligned and also functions as a high tech scale that can track your BMI progress as well.

For someone like me, whose schedule doesn't allow regular gym time this seems like a fun solution to much missed exercise.  But I wonder... does it reall work?

Re: What do you think of the Wii Fit?
Our family has had a wii for a year now, I must say it has brought more family fun for our little group of 4. I was very skeptical about buying one. When I gave my hubs the ok, I saw there was a little more then just tv. I first found out I was 78 years old in wii time. Im my own age now. It was just something to do without the hastle of crowds and waiting in line or even indulging it that desert bar. They did do a study and said it only burns 100 calories an hour. I seem to say otherwise. Only because my husband and I have lost about 50 pounds in total. We sure would have liked that 24 hour membership, but you know Family is Number ONE!!

Hey TJ, I'm sure you've already either bought Wii fit or have decided not to go with that just yet! This year I finally broke down and bought my 8 year old a Wii on his birthday (after standing in fron of toy r us an hour before the store opens!). I always feared that these games are very addictive and my fears seem to be true :)...I can't stop playing boxing and Tennis, and Mario Go Kart! Granted I slip off every time and my son beats me in every race. Anyway, the store person at Toys R Us said to me that it wasn't worth my money to buy Wii fit because most people get tired of the system...of course, I didn't buy so I wouldn't know whether that was true or not. I thought both Boxing and Tennis were a great work out for me. I knocked my husband down almost every time in boxing! LOL

Re: What do you think of the Wii Fit?
I love the idea, but probably won't be purchasing it unit around the holidays, I'm getting sick and tired of these manufacterers coming up with new consoles and the prices are ridiculous. Once they get to the affordable range, they come out with a newer version and of course, the old games won't work on the new consoles...

I agree that anything that will get you up and moving instead of vegging out in front of a screen has got to be a good thing. I'm one of those moms who hijacks the PlayStation to play DDR, that game is addictive, I swear!

Re: What do you think of the Wii Fit?
We have the Wii at work. Its fun, but I will not be purchasing at home for my family.(We only use Wii sports not fit).Wii sports boxing is great for burning calories.
Knowing my family I think they would be bored after a little while. If you don't game I think its a great system but for a gaming family the graphics just aren't up to par.
We do have PS3 at home. And we're huge gamers. We find guitar hero can burn a few calories jamming with the guitar. Call of Duty and Medal of Honor you use the remote to simulate flight jumps and fighting for you life against Nazis and you sweat bullets! (My guilty pleasure though is Grand Theft Auto 4. nothing like a car chase to get my blood pumping) ..GTA4 is not for kids though and even teens I would question purchasing for; but for a mature adult its pure escapism.
