Re: deployments
My daughters have just started in thier first US school today. My husband is liable to deploy spring '09 so this question was on my list. Chloe Clark Elementary does have a counsellor who I have met and is just lovely. We are very luck in that we live off post but in a very military orientated community - the whole city seems like an extension of military housing (in a good way!)! The school secretary also told me that virtually every staff member has military connections.
Is there perhaps a counselor on post. I remember reading at article about something at Fort Lewis which addressed children and deployment. I'll see if I can find it and pass it on to you.

Re: deployments
Also, you should check in with your equivalent of the fleet and family service center on base...sometimes this office can be an invaluable resource. I have heard of classes for children etc....

Re: deployments
If you are Army and live off post then the ACS (Army Community Services) would be the one-stop center to help you out with any issues that your children may be having due to deployments. The number one place to go is a guidance counselor that is if your child attends school on post. Generally, they have guidance counselors that are specialized in handling that issue. My children's guidance counselor in Germany had a special program for those children who had parents deployed and the program lasted throughout the entire deployment. It really helped them cope! If your guidance counselor does not have a program such as that then try to ask them to develop one.
