Bats have long been a misunderstood mammal and become endangered in some areas.

Many bats eat bugs,  They make a great natural pest control for your gardens, your yards and they protect your family from mosquitos the natural way.  Within an hour, most bats can eat 1000 mosquitos!  It's a great way to control pests without pesticides.

Build a bat habitat in your yard or garden and they will come.  If you are going to do this, do not use pesticides and herbicides because it can harm the bats and defeat the purpose of having the bats there.

There are plants that can also help attract the bats to your habitat, so planting these will be fun too.

Both of the websites below give criteria and directions for building your own bat house.  If you don't want to build it, or don't have the ability to build it but are interested in having a habitat, you can buy one pre-made from the Bat Conservation (1st link).

Bats come out when the sun goes down, so it's a fun thing to see them come out of their homes and fy off into the night.  It's a great way to educate yourself, your family and friends and your neighbors about bats and their benefits to society.  Especially now with West Nile on the rise in Summer, bats are an effective and safe way to help keep the population down.

If you have a water feature in your yard, please be sure to have constant movement in the water as this prevents mosquitos from laying and hatching their eggs in your water feature.  The water feature will also attract bats.

Have fun!  I love bats, and I will be doing this for my family and myself and my friendly neighborhood bats.  Be compassionate to life and life will be compassionate to you.

I wish you well.
