My son was diagnosed with AS 3 yaers ago and ADD 5 years ago. He has amde tremendous advances in reducing the "negative" aspects of his condition. SO he is not a sever case, however we still believe that we need a school that cna understand these conditions and not necessaily an especialized Autism school where more sever cases may be catter. Please let me know of any schools that you may know about close by Weston FL or about 20 miles from it.

Thanks

Re: Cosidering a new job offer - need help in ID best school
You're welcome.

You may also want to see if there is a Regional Center in the area you're interested in. Where I live, we have Regional Centers who assist parents, children and adults with their needs. My son also has Asperger's and he's 13. We have used our Regional Center since he was three years old.

You didn't mention if your son has an IEP, or if he's currently receiving any services at his current school. If he has an IEP, you can always request another IEP meeting to change or alter the services your son receives.

Good luck, and please let us know how things are going.

Hi axexeda, and welcome to the Greatschools Community.

How old is your son? Does he have an IEP? What services is he currently receiving at school?

I am not located in Florida, but I'd like to suggest taking a look at the Autism Society of America website. You can contact them to see if they can recommend a school, or schools that may fit your son's needs. I've attached a link here to Florida: www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer?pagename=florida.

Since your son has ADD, you may also want to post your question in the Learning & Attention Difficulties group: community.greatschools.net/groups/11554. There are many parents with children who have ADD who may be able to give you additional information about the Florida area you're interested in.

Please keep us posted on your progress.
