I'm looking for a pubic or private preschool in the South Bay (Torrance, CA Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach) that has a program for children with Autism?

Does anyone have any reccommendations?

Dear JnCMom,
My son (just turned 5) is high functioning however he is very low functioning emotionally - cannot socially integrate and cannot transition well. I found a regular preschool (private Methodist) in my area (Los Angeles) with no experience with Autism but willing to help me. I love these teachers and am truly grateful for their help: teachers make sure he is part of the class; also at beginning of year, teachers took pictures of my son at school at each phase of transition and then I made a picture board which we review everyday before he goes to school; also, teachers take him by the hand when transitioning; teachers integrate him to play with 1 or 2 other children; teachers help him pick out toys/tricycles at recess; teachers make sure he is not playing alone under a table etc..; also, I stay with him everyday for about 10 minutes to transition him which they allow; he is in a class of 20 students with 2 teachers. Also, I see a wonderful Autistic specialist who gives me great ideas to help my son. I also take my son to an Autisic Social group where the director said sometimes the best help comes from people who do not have a lot of knowledge of Autism. Sometimes people with experience take a one size fits all approach to helping our kids. I wish you all the best luck in finding a school.
All the Best,
Marlene
