I have a child who's been diagnosed with dyslexia and we have been working  for the past 6 months with a OG tutor who is certified by the Orton Gillingham Academy. We are going to relocate to the Tampa Bay area and I checked with the Academy and they do not have any Academy practicioners in the area. Even though some people may not have the certification, they may have had the training, but I'd like to work with somebody that really knows what they are doing, since it made all the difference for us to work with somebody who had the complete training (and certification)in the OG method.

Can anyone recommend a good OG tutor in the Tampa area (including St Pete and Pinellas county)? Thanks for any feedback on resources in that area.

Re: OG Tutor in Tampa
I know you posted quite a while ago... I just found this site myself. I was trained in OG in NH through Masonic Learning Center (full year course) and also took the advanced course through Boston General Hospital. I am also familiar/trained with Project Read and have used the Wilson program (and own Wilson Materials). I am about to get involved with the Barton system (an OG type program) as well and really like what they have to offer. If you are still in need of an OG tutor, I would be willing to meet with you to see if I would be able to help your child.

Contact your local International Dyslexia branch
www.interdys.org
They can connect you with local professionals in your area. Most O-G tutors are a member of the IDA and in their referral list.

Re: OG Tutor in Tampa
Check out the IMSLEC website. There may be lists of people who have certification in an O-G based program. You can also look at the IDA website at www.interdys.org to see lists of MSL programs, their comparisons and components. There are several which are O-G based and are intensive language therapy. Look for a person with certification and experience rather than someone who has just had some training. Different areas of the county may be more prone to having people with training in another O-G based program such as Sounds-In-Syllables, Wilson, Slingerland, or another. IDA has a complete list of certified MSL language programs. You should look for a program that certifies its instructors and actually observes their performance with students through a practicum of teaching.
